For twenty years Claire Randall has kept her secrets. But now she is returning with her grown daughter to Scotland's majestic mist-shrouded hills. Here Claire plans to reveal a truth as stunning as the events that gave it birth: about the mystery of an ancient circle of standing stones...about a love that transcends the boundaries of time...and about James Fraser, a Scottish warrior whose gallantry once drew a young Claire from the security of her century to the dangers of his ....

Now a legacy of blood and desire will test her beautiful copper-haired daughter, Brianna, as Claire's spellbinding journey of self-discovery continues in the intrigue-ridden Paris court of Charles Stuart ...in a race to thwart a doomed Highlands uprising...and in a desperate fight to save both the child and the man she loves....

Review:
This is the second book in the Outlander series and it continues the story of the lives of Claire and Jamie Fraser. The book begins in the 1960s. Claire takes her daughter Brianna to Scotland in a visit disguised as a trip to see the sights her father (Frank Randall) wrote about. In truth, Claire enlists the help of a researcher, Roger Wakefield, to find out what happened after the Battle of Culloden so she can tell Brianna the whole story of her real father, Jamie Fraser.

Brianna and Roger are hesitant to believe Claire's time traveling story, but as the research starts to adds up, they finally listen to her tale of her and Jamie's life in the 1740s. The tale tells of their time in England, France and finally what happened in Scotland during the battle to put bonnie Prince Charlie on the throne and finally led Jamie to send Claire back through the stones.
Claire's story is thrilling, romantic and tragic. She and Jamie loved and suffered more in the three years this book covers than most people do in a lifetime. Diana weaves a very emotional and exciting story that is a honorable follow up to Outlander. For those who love this series, continue on with: Voyager
